Upcycling Carnival: Plastic Pollution & Cultural Expression in the Caribbean

As a Peace Boat 100th voyage "Youth for the SDGs Scholar," I designed and led an upcycling project for St. Maarten's annual Carnival Festival, transforming reclaimed materials into carnival costume pieces with a group of local youth. The project was featured by United Nations World Oceans Day as an example of youth-led environmental action connecting sustainability, culture, and community celebration.

This work grew out of years of community-based climate engagement, which led to my selection in 2019 as one of 100 young climate champions worldwide, and one of three representing the Caribbean for the first UN Youth Climate Summit at UN Headquarters in New York in 2019.
